Gastric balloon is an inflatable medical device. The gastric balloon, which is placed endoscopically without surgery and without stitches, is placed in the stomach and then inflated and the operation is performed. The balloon is inflated with methylene blue colored liquid compatible with body fluids by means of endoscopic apparatus. The operation takes an average of 15-20 minutes.
The purpose of the operation is not to reduce the stomach volume, but to facilitate early satiety and diet adaptation process by creating a fullness and indigestible area in the stomach. The duration of the gastric balloon’s stay in the body is determined by the physician, and when the time expires, the balloon is removed by endoscopy.
